Statement regarding Terry Schiavo

Mar 21, 2005

Washington, Mar 21, 2005 - “Tonight the U.S. Congress acted to save a woman’s life and allow a judicial review of the facts of the Terri Schiavo case. As we’ve seen in the videos of Terri and from the testimony of her family, this woman deserves the chance to live. She does not deserve to be deprived of food and water and to die in pain. Her family does not deserve the pain of watching this happen to her. The facts are there is no living will and there was no explicit instruction that she would rather not live in these circumstances. While hope remains about her possible recovery we cannot deny her the most basic right of all humans: the right to live.”
