Congressman Rohrabacher Secures Funding For Local High Tech Crime Lab
Washington, Jun 20, 2005 - Today Representative Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) was pleased to announce the inclusion of his request for a local high-tech crime lab in the FY2006 Science, State, Justice, Commerce and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill that passed the House.
“Orange County law enforcement needs all the help they can get to investigate and prosecute crimes,” said Rep. Rohrabacher. “The funding through the Department of Justice COPS grant will enable them to keep pace with investigating the large volume of cases they deal with every day.”
The Orange County High Tech Crime Lab is responsible for collecting and analyzing forensic evidence for the 34 cities within Orange County. Demand for the lab is skyrocketing as almost every search of a crime scene or of a suspect’s property now routinely involves the search of a computer or of a computer network. State of the art equipment and software are needed to help the District Attorney’s Office effectively investigate and prosecute numerous criminal cases.
“Orange County enjoys a relatively safe way of life and any way that we can enhance safety by providing our law officials with better equipment is a worthy investment,” stated Rep. Rohrabacher. “The quicker we get the bad guys off the streets, the better.”
