WASHINGTON – Rep. Dana Rohrabacher on Thursday hailed passage by the House of Representatives of the SPACE Act of 2015, which would encourage commercial exploration of space.

HR2262, or the Spurring Private Aerospace Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship Act, passed by a solid vote of 284 to 133.  Republicans cast 236 of the votes favoring it with 48 Democrats also voting to approve.

The bill, which will move on to the Senate, builds on the House Science, Space and Technology’s bipartisan tradition of promoting economic growth in America, through emergence of a new, entrepreneurial space industry.

The act specifically continues the streamlined regulatory regime Congress put in place f or commercial human space flight just a decade ago when the California Republican sponsored the Commercial Space Launch Amendments Act of 2004.  That decade-old act also passed with solid bipartisan support.

“This is about creating jobs,” said Rohrabacher. “It’s about a new space industry, with whole new companies full of jobs, for people who can help build spaceships and operate them.”
