Rohrabacher: Memo Debunks Conspiracy Theory, Exposes a Real Plot
WASHINGTON – Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats, today released the following statement on the declassification today of the House Intelligence Committee Memo:
The release of the House Intelligence Committee memo on what prompted the investigation of possible collusion between Russian operatives and the Trump campaign highlights a truth: The integrity of even our law enforcement and intelligence agencies can be politicized and compromised. From time to time we all must be reminded of that vulnerability. That is why we must insist on congressional oversight of all federal agencies, especially of our foreign and domestic intelligence services.
No matter the self-serving criticism from detractors, Chairman Devin Nunes has done a great service to our country by debunking a heinous conspiracy theory and in doing so exposing a real conspiracy. He did this while guarding the necessary secrecy associated with our intelligence operations. Chairman Nunes and the Republican majority acted in good faith and in the best interests of the American people.
I commend President Trump for standing up for transparency. It’s sad that the Democrats did everything they could to thwart the inquiry into this affair. This was nothing less than an attempted cover-up of wrongdoing by the last administration. This whole episode makes Watergate pale in comparison.
