Rohrabacher Congratulates President Sissi on his Election Victory

Jun 2, 2014

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, R-CA, has issued a statement congratulating Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sissi on his victory last week in a free and fair election.

“President Sissi’s election is a major milestone in restoring democracy in Egypt,” said Rep. Rohrabacher. “With more than 23 million votes cast for President Sissi, 10 million more votes than former President Morse received, he has a strong and clear mandate. The Egyptian people deserve the stability and prosperity that coincides with a democratically elected government that respects their rights, and it is clear by the number of votes received by President Sissi that the people of Egypt strongly reject a radical Islamist government as was being instituted by the former president, Mohamed Morsi.”

Rep. Rohrabacher is the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats and the co-chairman of the Friends of Egypt Caucus.
