Rohrabacher Commends Deployment of National Guard to Secure America’s Border with Mexico
Washington – Responding to the news that President Donald Trump will sign a proclamation to send National Guard troops to the U.S./Mexico border in order to close security gaps and stem illegal immigration, Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) issued the following statement:
I once again applaud President Trump’s commitment to securing our nation’s borders and stopping the massive flow of illegal immigration into our country. For too long our government has refused to fund adequately our border security, and the most recent Omnibus spending bill failed to do so again. Deploying the National Guard will act as a temporary deterrent and re-establish control of the border while we work on additional solutions to this decades-long invasion of our country.
It is my hope that the National Guard, which will serve in a support capacity for federal law enforcement, will not be our long-term solution. We must hire more border patrol agents, fund construction of the border wall, and ensure that those who enter our country with a visa leave when their permission to be here expires.
We owe this to the American people, whose benefits of citizenship are cheapened when their government refuses to protect America’s national sovereignty. Our first consideration should be the safety and security of the American people. The uncontrolled flow of illegal aliens into our country is one of the greatest threats to our nation’s security and prosperity.
