Constitutional Amendment Protecting The Flag Passes House

Jun 22, 2005

Washington, Jun 22, 2005 - Today, the House passed H.J. Res. 10, which proposes an amendment to the Constitution that would authorize the Congress to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States. Congressman Rohrabacher supported the bill.

“Right now, we have brave Americans fighting for the ideals symbolized by the flag: liberty, democracy and justice,” said Rep. Rohrabacher. “The flag represents the very best our country and is a constant reminder of those who have laid down their lives so that we may enjoy freedom. Desecration of the flag is an insult to our fighting men and women and all those who went before them.”

In order to be enacted into law, H.J. Res. 10 will also have to be adopted by a two-thirds majority in the Senate, and then ratified by three-fourths of America’s state legislatures.
